The Page Family on holiday at Westgate on July 1948 and June 1949 with their Nanny, Winnie Glanvill. This was my Mum's first post since qualifying as a Nursery Nurse commencing with the birth of Jean in addition to her big brother Howard.
My Mum did her Nursery Nurse Training at the National Children's Home at Ebley in Stroud, Gloucestershire qualifying having passed Parts A & B of the Examination held by the National Nursery Examination Board on 17 January 1948.
My Mum often spoke of Jean & Howard and kept an eye of Howard's career over the years and was thrilled to bits when Howard was called to the Bar and then appointed Queen's Counsel in 1987.
When my Mum started her Nursery Nurse Training her youngest brother Peter was born the same year; 1947. A Civil Servant all his working life he later worked at the office of the Registrar of the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St James Palace. On four or five occasions my Mum was her brother's guest at the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and always hoped that would be the occasion she would meet Howard again in his role of Queen's Council.
My Mum Winnie Stokes nee Glanvill died on 19 January 2007 in Barnet, Hertfordshire having lived in Boreham Wood, Hertfordshire since 1960.
